Lost Gods and Shifting Borders

image

Ararat is a huge city where the powerful struggle for control and the borders are constantly changing. This is a place of many Gods and the city itself seems to absorb their power. On this day the Great Bird’s arrival had been predicted, and after it flew over the city things would never be the same. Some of the energy from its flight had been captured by those far below on the ground. There was the great ship that rose in the air and never came down and now hovers over the city, but the effect was also felt by a teenage boy, Jack, who took flight from a workhouse. Arjun arrived just in time to see the Great Bird, but he has a different purpose than to see the flight. He has traveled far in search of the Voice, a God that has disappeared from his land, and now Arjun thinks the Voice may be in Ararat. In Thunderer by Felix Gilman, Ararat is alive with tension and power as both Gods and humans try to define the city. This is the first book of a new fantasy series which is followed by Gears of the City.
