A secret division of the government is after Gabriel Bleak, but he isn’t easy to catch. It helps to be able to call on special powers like talking to the dead and Gabriel is powerful and because of that the government wants him under their control.

However, more people are developing powers and some of them are bent on evil. The Hidden- the source for the power-has been kept in check but the border between the two worlds is beginning to blur. As this is happening evil is beginning to grow in strength threatening the world.

Gabriel doesn’t know who he can trust, and he is on the run. Being captured by the government is the least of his worries because as the barriers begin to break down it’s up to Gabriel to stop the threat from the Hidden.  In Bleak History by John Shirley, Gabriel must face danger from everywhere and be ready for the fight of his life.
