I recently picked up a few advance reader copies that looked like they might be of interest to fans of inspirational fiction.  They are coming out in June.  Here is what I thought of them.

Saints in Limbo by River Jordan

This intriguing book sucked me in from the very first page.  A mysterious visitor gives an eccentric old woman a special gift—a rock that takes her back into her memories in such a realistic way that she feels as if she is travelling in time.  From this mystical beginning the reader learns more about Velma and her past, but the main question is why has she been given this gift and what is she supposed to do with it?  Velma finds those answers as she interacts with her family and neighbors and encounters and decides that living with regrets has to become a thing of the past.  This book will appeal to readers who like unusual stories with a bit of mysticism yet with realistic characters that you can relate to.

Come Sunday by Isla Morley
After previewing this book I would recommend it to readers that like books that get you into the heads of people dealing with family issues.  Readers who like exotic settings will also enjoy the settingsof this book which moves from Hawaii to South Africa. The main character, Abbe, struggles with her relationship with her husband and the demands of being a pastor’s wife and mother.  Then a tragedy changes everything and forces her to question everything about her life—including her faith.  She also starts to think more and more about her childhood in South Africa and wonder where she really belongs.   The book deals with a lot of the character’s inner struggles and with family relationships.   I also just saw that this book got a starred review in Booklist which praised it for it’s “poignant, read-in-one-sitting tale of loss and renewal that will haunt readers”.

Gold of Kings by Davis Bunn, also available as an audiobook 

Having enjoyed many of Davis Bunn’s books in the past, I eagerly turned to the first page of this book expecting another exciting page-turner.  And I was not disappointed.  This time the adventure is centered around the hunt for ancient artifacts—the lost treasures of the Second Jerusalem Temple.  Storm Syrrell discovers that this hunt was what led to the murder of her grandfather and that an associate of his has been charged with continuing the search—and with protecting her.   This fast paced adventure story gets off to a quick start and just keeps on going.  Fans of Bunn’s well researched entertaining stories will not be disappointed.
