Welcome to the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library

Enjoy one of the Bard’s best romantic comedies

image

William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a perennial favorite . Shakespeare’s complicated love triangles include Demetrius and Lysander, who both want Hermia, and the outsider Helena, whose unrequited love burns hot for Demetrius. They flee into the forest, only to encounter meddling fairies and hilarious mischief in one of Shakespeare’s finest plays.

Revisit the story by reading Shakespeare’s play, learning more about Shakespearean times, or checking out the 1999 VHS or DVD film adaptation starring Kevin Kline and Michelle Pfeiffer. Or kick back with the hilarious teen comedy Get Over It, in which Kirsten Dunst stars in a school musical of the Shakespearean play.

Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel The Sandman: Dream Country spotlights an unusual performance of the play, and Tui Sutherland’s young adult novel This Must be Love retells the story with high school dramatics.
