Crazy for the Storm by Norman Ollestad
Danger, suspense, action are the three main ingredients Norman Ollestad uses to weave his powerful memoir, CRAZY FOR THE STORM. When I first saw the title, I thought there must be some mistake, “Who would be crazy for a storm?” I wondered if this was a story I wanted to read so I skimmed over the first three pages and stopped to start again. This time I could not put it down!
Not only does Norman tell a most unusual story but he does it with the skill of a master story teller. I love his many creative comparisons in writing descriptions of beauty, terror, glory, love and more. This writer knows how to bring his reader beside him as he carries out his exploits.
Perhaps the most rewarding experience from Mr. Ollestad’s account is the relationship between his father and himself. I found this bond to be a magnificent flower amidst the painful realities that Little Norman is living. If this were a fictional account, it would be difficult to believe in our selfish world. Without ever even hinting at the spiritual, I found Ollestad’s story inspiring me to strive for the highest life can offer.
Please don’t take my word as reason to read this book. Take my challenge and read the first chapter. Just remember you are warned that you will not be able to put it down!
