Welcome to the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library

Cool Website Combines Books and Travel

image
Is your experience of travelling someplace heightened by reading books set in or about that locale?  Mine certainly is, and so I greatly appreciate the BiblioTravel website that librarians Fiona Scannell and James Schellenberg have put together.  Visitors to the site can look up the place they are travelling too (or are interested in) and get a list of related books.  Many of the books are submitted by users of the site, and users can also make comments on the site's listing.  You can also search the site by author, title, or genre.  I like the way a world map is displayed when you click on the "place" option, though I wish clicking on it lead to more map layers instead of lists of text.  But the site does work well and it will be fun to explore it when I'm getting ready to travel--or I'm just dreaming of travelling.  After all the most important part of any trip is deciding what books to pack.
