A mystery from another time

image

Scandals, love affairs, greed, and murder make Roger the Chapman’s life full of surprises. A young man is in Bristol waiting for his brother to return from a dangerous voyage when he is accused of a robbery and murder that took place years ago. His accuser is Dame Bellknapp who is part of a wealthy family with connections. At first, this case has nothing to do with Roger but he finds out that the accused young man is his half brother.  Now he must leave his family and travel to the Bellknapp’s family home in Somerset. Cast in another mystery, Roger must prove his half brother’s innocence but not before there is another murder and this time it’s a member of the Bellknapp’s family. The Prodigal Son by Kate Sedley is the latest installment in the popular Roger the Chapman Mystery Series. A chapman is basically a peddler. This series takes place in fifteenth century in England and Roger travels the country meeting the mightiest lords and the lowest servants. Roger is an unlikely detective as a traveling chapman but with his charm and wits he tries to find the answers in these exciting mysteries.
