Message: Blessed By Binkley Jerold and Joan Binkley, known as hosts of the fondly remembered Tulip Time on the Binkley homestead, have contributed the past eight years to the animal menagerie which accompanies the AdventureMobile each summer. Jerold has raised chickens, even as a small child. On occasion he has simply grant me passage to literally catch what I could in the huge pen which houses a variety of handsome chicken breeds. None of the chickens or their eggs is used for profit but serve as another one of his mission projects. Always of special interest to adults and children alike are the Silkies whose web less feathers and feather-covered feet resemble a scurrying dust mop wearing fuzzy slippers. Their personalities emerge along with their tail feathers as children and parents observe scratching, heads up swallowing, and fluttering attempts while listening to the constant din of sweet peeps. My week of bonding as the mama chick is one I welcome. Returning them to fend for themselves at week’s end is an emotional parting. In my brief conversations with Jerold, I am impressed by his positive outlook and friendly demeanor. He considers his life blessed and in turn, finds joy in passing along those blessings to others. As the master mind and a major contributor in labor and funds to the Ensley Garden at Lake Shawnee through the Topeka Beautification Project. Jerold Binkley’s gifts of talent and generosity are a perpetual delight. In the utmost spirit of humility he is quick to credit multiple groups that have donated time, creativity and hard work to the various projects which adorn our community. A heartfelt thank you to Joan and their four children for unselfishly sharing the husband and father who has enriched lives for generations. http://www.tscpl.org/bookmobile/comments/bless_by_binkley/
