Is anyone out there interested in a book club devoted to Anne Perry?  I would be willing to set one up if you do.  Please let me know.

I’d be interested in a book club devoted to Anne Perry! I know she’s popular in some circles…but not many people know about her. How do I find out more?

You are the first one to respond.  I figure we should get together when others come and decide on a time and day that will be right for all of us.  We will go through one book a month (there’s a lot to cover).  There are two Anne Perry series, Monk and Pitt.  We will alternate them.  We will start with the first one of each series and finish at the most current in each series.  Let me know what you think.  I am open to suggestions.

That sounds good to me. I have read many of the Thomas Pitt series, but haven’t read any of the William Monk ones yet. I do own all her books though. She also has a Christmas series and other individual novels. I will keep my eye on this posting and see what happens. Sounds like a great idea!

Hi
My name is Susan and I work in the reference department here at the library.  I noticed your interest in Anne Perry.  Since you are both fans you probably know this already, but in case you don’t she has a World War 1 series featuring the three Reavley siblings.  The books in this series are more spy thriller as opposed to the detective genre of the Pitt and Monk series.
The titles in the WW1 series are:
No Graves as Yet
Shoulder the Sky
Angels in the Gloom
At Some Disputed Barricade
We Shall not Sleep
If we can help you out in anyway please let us know by calling 580-4555 or going to the contact form at http://www.tscpl.org/bgib/section/contact_form/
Hope we hear from you soon!

How do we go about getting more people?  If we don’t, do you want a 2-person group, or should we leave it alone?

Yes, I forgot to list her WWI series in my earlier email. I have read the first one of that series and thought it was very good as well. I think a 2-person group isn’t ideal. At least 3-4 would be needed. I wonder if contacting the library, as Susan said, would be appropriate to see if they could put a flier or notice up about the club idea.

The library can post the details for community book groups on our website-you can also reserve meeting space here for your group. I agree that 3-4 people would be more fun for a discussion. Once you choose a time to meet I’ll update this blog post and add your group’s info.

Well-to tie this up then. I could only meet on weekends really. Evenings may work, but I carpool. So I’d prefer weekends. If this works for you, Randi, perhaps we can set up an initial meeting and have the library post the time on the website and just see how many people show up to the initial meeting. What do you think?

That sounds good.  How would Saturday morning at 10am be?  I am free in the mornings on Saturday till 1pm and after 5pm.  I am only available on Sunday in the evenings.  What do you think?

Saturday morning would be fine. Anwhere from 10-11:45. So I think our schedules will work. Sunday evenings would work for me as well. Should we schedule the first one for sometime in mid-late September? Do you want to work with the library to have something posted?

Sounds good.  How about Saturday, September 20, at 10:00.  I will check with the library as to what they can do to help get the word out.

I wound up in a respite home for a week and wasn’t able to set anything up.  Lissa will not be back for a month to set things up.  I guess we will have to wait until mid-late October to start the group.  I am very sorry.  Could we try for Saturday, October 18 at 10:00am?  If you still want to do it, I am still game.  If you don’t, I will certainly understand.

That’s fine with me. Not a problem at all. I’ll plan for October 18th at 10:00

Randi-
Are we still planning to meet on Saturday at 10:00 at the library? If so, is there a meeting room scheduled or are we just going to meet in a common area?

Arienne,

I haven’t been able to get hold of Lissa yet.  I will try today or tomorrow.  I think we had better back it up another week.  I will definitely have gotten hold of her this week.

Jennifer from group book for group in a bag.  Lissa is still not available.  She should call me today sometime.  I am going to have them advertise the group on their website.  We should be good to go on August 25.

I heard from Lissa.  She is on maternity leave.  She suggested I call her supervisor Brad Allen.  I just tried to reach him, and he wasn’t available.  She suggested we either use the Reference Room in the back of the library or the Millenium Cafe in the front of the library since we will be a small group.  I’ll let you know more when I know more.

So- we’re not meeting tomorrow still right?
Next week? Unless I hear back this afternoon, I’ll assume we’re still not planning to meet tomorrow.
Thanks!

Adrienne,

We are not meeting this afternoon.  I am waiting for Jennifer to call about our group.  We may have to get our own books.  That might be a deterrent.  I am asking Brad Allen to put the word out about our group.  They said that if the library accepts it, we may put up flyers throughout the library.  Lissa is on maternity leave so she can only help by e-mail right now.  I will get everything arranged.  I’m hoping to start Oct. 25 or Nov. 1.  Don’t worry.  Everything that can be done, will be done.  We will definitely will start by Nov. 1.  Sorry for the big mess.  I will inform you as I go along.

Adrienne,

As you can see, I am having trouble finding the time to get everything done on time.  I hope you weren’t waiting today, or at least not too long.  For some reason, the reasonably flexible schedule I had when I started this, has turned into a hectic mess.  I am so sorry.  I certainly wasn’t expecting this, but here it is.  I don’t think I can have time to work with a group right now.  Once again, I am very sorry.
