Message: Build a Better Website to Attract and Keep Satisfied Customers In his new book, Designing the Digital Experience, David Lee King introduces us to the concept of “experience design” to create more customer-friendly, socially interactive websites that attract and keep loyal customers. King is the Digital Branch and Information Technology Manager at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library. In his book, King talks about developing a positive customer experience, be it in person or online. “Your customer wants prompt attention,” says King. “They want to be able to quickly make a purchase or find information about your product and your company. They want authenticity.” Digital experience design reflects how the online community is evolving—and as a social networking sites multiply, people want to connect with other people—and companies that care. King’s book explains the digital experience and introduces a range of tools and strategies to tap into the rapidly-growing marketplace. He shows how organizations can use experience design to distinguish themselves from the competition and “uncork the viral marketing genie.” Though this is King’s first printed publication, he is an established digital author and recognized expert in library Web 2.0 circles. He is an international speaker on topics such as managing, marketing, experimenting, usability, and planning websites as well as video-blogging, and the experience design.
