THE STORY OF THE TOPEKA FESTIVAL OF SPEED

For Economic Development
In February 2008, a gathering local leaders recruited crews to develop a
strategy to rally our community and build on the financial benefit to our
community from the SCCA Runoffs by attracting other prestigious racing events
to Topeka. It was determined that the best way to accomplish these goals was
to generate staggering attendance at this year’s SCCA Runoffs by creating a
festival to bring Northeast Kansas together for a fantastic series of events.

For Community Pride
Since February, the crews have grown into a huge group who has said “YES!” to
supporting economic success and community pride in Topeka. With vision for
the future of Topeka, it was determined that the festival should become an
annual event that Topekans are proud of and will look forward to attending
each year.

For Quality of Life
The First Annual Topeka Festival of Speed will take place October 1—12, 2008.
The Festival will benefit Heartland Park Topeka Foundation, whose mission is
helping youth and elderly in Northeast Kansas. The foundation typically selects
organizations and makes grants which fund special projects to improve quality
of life for youth and elderly.
