POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY BOOKTIQUE

POSITION:  BOOKSTORE ASSOCIATE   

Applications accepted through Friday, October 30, 2009.  Mailed applications must be postmarked by October 30, 2009. 

COMPENSATION:  $7.31 per hour.

SCHEDULE: Part-time, at least 20 hours per week.  

DUTIES: Provide excellent service to bookstore customers. Operate a cash register and handle money accurately. Open boxes of merchandise, sort books and other merchandise, direct to specific subject categories as assigned, and provide direction in preparing items for pricing and shelving in the store. Responsible for the general “condition” of the store’s appearance in terms of organization, order, and cleanliness. Shelve books for sale, and remove books from shelves as needed.

REQUIREMENTS/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have a High School diploma or equivalent.  Applicants should possess retail sales experience and be knowledgeable about authors, books, and videos.  Basic library skills are preferred. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with customers, volunteers, colleagues and supervisors is required   This medium work position requires bending, lifting/carrying at least 20-50 pounds, ability to exert 20-50 pounds of force when pushing/pulling materials, reaching, the ability to climb stairs, talking on the telephone, stationary work at a cash register.  A pre-and/or post-employment drug screen, a criminal history record check, and physical capacity testing are required as a condition of employment.
