No longer a subtle influence in the community churning out bookworms, libraries nationwide are now churning out job candidates. The Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library is no exception. Here are three ways your library has responded to the unemployment trend:

You know, Nightly Business Report, about 7 months ago, asked viewers to send in their suggestions about how they’re cutting back in response to the economic meltdown. Most viewers who got their blog post featured on the show said things like, “use coupons” or “eat out less”—BORING/OBVIOUS. I wrote in about TSCPL and listed about 50 things our library provides that would cut entertainment costs like crazy, as well as the resources that were available for job searching, budgeting, cooking inexpensively, recycling clothing, etc. They never used it and I was dumbfounded. I’m glad to see the media FINALLY promoting our resources. Took them long enough!
